December 11, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Tut Gatluak South Sudanese Presidential Adviser arrived in Khartoum on Saturday for talks on the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement (JPA).

Gatluak who serves also as the chief mediator for Sudan’s peace talks told reporters in Khartoum that he would discuss the implementation process for the eastern Sudan track and security arrangements for Darfur and the Two Areas.

One year after the signing of the JPA, the security arrangements, IDPs and refugee return programme, security arrangements, and recovery projects plans, have not yet been implemented.

The deterioration of the security situation in Darfur forced the peace parties to set up a small force to protect civilians.

While in the Blue Nile state, the government and SPLM-N started the enforcement of the security arrangements in September before stopping it in October.

Last week, Malik Agar was in Juba where he raised the slow implementation of the peace agreement.

Gatluak said he would also discuss the Hamdok-Burhan agreement signed on 21 November on the formation of a cabinet of technocrats.

Gatluak did not mention the stalled peace talks with the SPLM-N led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu on the conflict in the Nuba Mountains.
